Brave New World Productions was selected in 2019 by the European Cultural Foundation (Amsterdam) and MitOst e.V. (Berlin) to participate in the Tandem Cultural Capitals programme.
The aim of the programme is to enrich the work of the selected organisations through collaboration with a cultural organisation of choice, from one of the past or future European Capitals of Culture: Leeuwarden-Fryslan 2018, Galway 2020, Rijeka 2020, Novi Sad 2021, Kaunas 2022, Veszprem 2023 and Eleusis 2023.
During the first phase of the programme in June 2019, 28 cultural professionals from the above mentioned European Capitals of Culture met in Rijeka, Croatia, to get to know each other, choose their 'match' and start working with him / her on a pilot project that would strengthen their own working practice and broaden their organisations.
During four particularly busy days, the selected paticipants took part in workshops and presentations on international cooperation skills, the 'institution' of European Capitals of Culture, and study visits with insights into the Rijeka 2020 artistic programme.
Here Claudia Woolgar met Yannis Pappas, from Chorus in Eleusis, Greece. Since then they have been developing an exciting project through regular Skype contact - a project with a focus on raising public awareness of the environmental crisis in Eleusis (and also in Europe).
